Bhutan is a small country nestled in the Himalayan mountains between China and India, and just west of Nepal.
The nation of Bhutan is only about 400 years old and was founded on the principles of Buddhism, the first king Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal came to power by merging the image of the crown and the national religion (Buddhism).
After his death in 1651 the country of Bhutan was thrown in to a civil war over succession; leaving them open to attacks from the Tibetans, Mongols, and Cooch Beharnese (no longer in existence).
